Italy’s advanced capital port to the Med, Civitavecchia figures some impressive numbers. According to the latest statistics, the port on an annual basic handles nearly 2.3 million cruise passengers from no less than 794 calls.
The capital hinterland and the central location for the national coastal traffic and the connections to the three major Mediterranean islands Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily generate furthermore 1.5 million annual ferry passengers and 1,350 calls.
I visit Civitavecchia every three or four years, mostly on cruise ships and mostly as part of an itinerary including other of the main Western Mediterranean cruise hubs. All to be presented in future Med Ports blog-galleries.
